-MY REVIEW-

"She wanted to be a Rhodi more than anything, so she could protect her brother and nobody could hurt her anymore. But all she could do was fail."

This book is so awesome! My review isn't going to do it justice, because this book is really awesome. This isn't your usual YA fantasy; the characters are rough, the fighting is ruthless, and there is no romance what so ever.

In this book we follow Dylan and Devin, as they train to become Rhodi. The Rhodi are elite warriors fighting to protect their island from The Hunter's Guild. There are very few Rhodi left (like, in the single digits), and so they can use all of the help they can get.

I loved Dylan! I just wanted to pick her up out of the book and protect her from the world. She isn't a lovable character, and you have to understand why she does what she does, but she is probably one of my favorite YA fantasy characters. I really love how she wasn't good at first. Sure, she was better than most people would be, but she still failed over, and over, and over. She isn't perfect, and she messes up. This really helped build her character in my opinion, and I love how she wasn't the usual fantasy character who gets everything really quickly.

I also really loved the different relationships throughout this book. I especially loved how none of them were romantic, and that made it so much easier to focus on the characters and the story line. I really enjoyed reading about Nellie and Devin, but the relationship that really stood out to me was Tal and Dylan. It was so fun and heart warming to see them evolve throughout the story, and ultimately have a beautiful father daughter relationship.

I thought that the magic was also really cool in this book! Yes, they're great warriors, but they also have to look inside to find their gifts. They had to deal with everything going on inside of them. I loved how they had to help themselves before they could help others.

Overall, I loved this book! With sweet relationships, epic fights, and even cooler magic, I cannot wait to read book two.
